What is Meditation? How deep should we dive into it?

For a moment, think of a machine. If it keeps running without a break, what happens? It gets worn out and eventually breaks down. The same thing happens with our minds. It needs regular maintenance to function well. And that’s what meditation is — a form of maintaining your mind. This helps the mind work better and remain fresh and sharper.

Now, how deep should we dive into meditation? Well, that depends on what meditation means to you. There are three main ways to approach it:

  1. Meditation as a tool. You can use meditation to clear your mind, control your thoughts, or just feel inner peace. If this is what you want, a daily practice of just 10 minutes can work wonders.
  2. Meditation as a skill. If you wish to become a life coach or Zen master, you would have to spend more time with your meditation. Like any skill, getting good at meditation takes time and effort.
  3. Meditation as an art. For some, meditation is more than just a practice — it is a passion, like dancing or singing. If this is you, then you lose track of time or depth of practice or whatever and do it just because you love it.

Explore it for yourself and see if meditation is a tool, a skill, or an art for you. But no matter which one you choose, remember that quality matters more than quantity. If you lose awareness during your practice or numb out, that’s sleeping, not meditation. Start small, and gradually increase your time as you improve.
