Beloved Narayan,
I often wonder why people believe spirituality belongs only to a chosen few — gurus, monks, those initiated into lineages, or born into special classes. Why must wisdom wear ochre robes before it is considered pure?
Narayan, can robes ever hide the mind? Who made such rules? Does realization arrive from fabric, or through honesty of the heart? Why has the Inner Divine — shining equally in all — been locked away behind saffron curtains?
When I close my eyes and speak to You, love carries me further than any robe. Still, society whispers that one cannot walk the path without a lineage, a guru, or a title.
The river of spirituality flows for everyone, not just for those who claim authority. You never asked us to wear robes. You only asked us to live authentically, to work, to love. You said people are to be judged by their Karma — yet the world has forgotten Your words.
When will this Maya — the veil of ignorance — be lifted, my Narayan?
Love,
Sri Devi
Disclaimer: “Letters to Narayan” and “Letters to Shiva” are open letters I write to the divine. They are personal reflections on social issues — expressions of my thoughts, feelings, and experiences — offered as conversations with the divine. These writings address real-world concerns but are presented in a fictional style, much like Lakshmi writing to Narayan or Parvati writing to Shiva. The signature “Sri Devi” is a wordplay — Sri Devi is the collective name for all goddesses in Sri Vidya.
